National Geographic/Beth Caldwell Photography Considering the price, that's saying a lot.Once in a lifetime experience petting the Southern White Rhino at The Wilds. My rating for the tour and our Wilds experience summed up: 100%. If giraffe slobber on your hands is a turn off for you, this may not be the right tour for you. In our case, a camel, an ostrich, and a giraffe. Be prepared to be up close and personal with a variety of animals. This is the ultimate tour for animal lovers. Wear shoes that are comfortable and you don't mind getting manure on. You might go in a barn or other off-bus activity. ![]() You don't spend your entire time in the bus. Use the bathroom before you get on the bus but I noticed several bathrooms en route in case we needed them. When you are heading straight into the wind on top of a hill the "feels like" temperature can be up to 15 degrees cooler than standing in the sun with no wind. ![]() It can get cool in the bus, depending on the weather. Because of the bus canopy, sun protection isn't a huge concern. If you wear contacts, you might want to consider wearing glasses instead because of the dust. If you have allergies or motion sickness, load up with drugs. The roads are gravel and you go off road sometimes. The tour is approximately 2.5 hours and the time goes fast. He is a walking encyclopedia, very passionate about his work, and there was NO shortage of information from him on the tour. Our guide was Dan, someone that is on the senior staff with the Wilds. The price difference is 2 to 1 but for the "Secrets" tour your guide is someone that's appeared on the TV show and is actually an employee that works with the animals and not a full time tour guide. I think the buses are the same (open air with canopy, holds about 12 people in non-COVID conditions) and probably the tour route. ![]() As far as I can tell, the difference between "The Wildside Tour" and "Secrets of the Zoo Wildside Tour" is who leads the tour. The information on The Wilds website was minimal so I'd like to provide more for people that are considering taking it. 4 of us took the Secrets of the Zoon Wildside tour in May 2021.
